There may be some discrepancy on exactly how much water someone needs to drink per day, and there may never be an exact answer. However, it’s generally agreed upon that more water is beneficial to everyone, and being hydrated is good for everyone. I find it very hard to drink water throughout the day, whether I’m busy at work or too lazy to get fresh, cold water at home. So here’s a few tips on how I drink more water throughout the day.
I bought a cute water bottle. Or 4. Or 5. Something about a cute water bottle makes me want to use it that much more. My bottles range from a camelbak, to a Victorias Secret Pink water bottle, to a Sigg water bottle. Seeing it reminds me that I want some water and need to drink.
I force myself to drink a set amount before meals. This is what I do:
- 1/2 L before breakfast. This is easy for me, because I take a supplement that suggests drinking 8-10oz of water with it. So right away when I wake up, I drink 16oz before even eating breakfast.
- I then drink a full liter between breakfast and lunch. If I continually think about it, I sip throughout the day. However, some days when I’m extra busy this might mean drinking it all before I can eat. Filling my stomach up with water makes me eat less, which is a useful thing for me.
- I drink another full liter before dinner, same concept. I eat later in the day (around 8 if I’m working), so it’s fairly easy to get this one in.
- And finally, I drink 1/2 L between dinner and bed. For the first few days this was tough, and I ended up waking up in the middle of the night to pee! But after my body adjusted, I slept through the night.
I flavor my water. Whether I use lemon, or other fruits, or crystal light. Sometimes I will drink tea (iced, or hot) as well. I will also drink sparking water, to give me some carbonation if I’m craving soda.
